Dear Fellow Indio Resident:
As home owners in the emerging southwestern section of Indio, my wife,
daughter and I are proud to call ourselves Indio residents. At the same
time, we are very concerned about the quality of life and public safety
in the area because of the large amount of vacant littered land that could
be utilized so much better if it were zoned so that the owners could do
something positive with it.
Measure M will increase property values, add new stores, make Indio safer
and eliminate massive illegal dumping.
The folks that created Measure M with me, known as Indio Citizens for
Positive Planning, are a large group of concerned citizens that want to
make Indio a better place. More than 4,000 Indio residents signed our
petition to finally make this important change.
Measure M will not increase taxes for Indio residents as our wealthy opponents
shamelessly claim. The city’s study estimated that if Measure M
passes, much needed new stores could generate hundreds of thousands of
dollars that can be used for better police and fire protection and other
needed services.
The initiative won’t allow high density housing to be built as the
very small group of rich estate owners opposing it argue. It calls for
a minimum lot size of 1/3 of an acre – almost twice the size of
new home lots in the desert’s wealthiest cities. With proper zoning,
this blighted part of the city will be converted from an eyesore to an
area that offers something for everyone – new parks, streets and
stores.
Right now, littered raw land along poorly paved and unlit streets attracts
bad people and crime and threatens the safety of our children. A vocal
minority of rich estate owners with lots of influence want to keep their
gated homes isolated by large fields even though families nearby must
live with the consequences.
We urge you to join our cause by Voting Yes on Measure M.
Sincerely,
Jonathan Wagner, Founder
Indio Citizens for Positive Planning |
